The Institute for Critical Social Inquiry will open part of its programming to the public – a series of lectures taught by this Summer's faculty cohort of David Harvey (CUNY), Susan Buck-Morss (CUNY), and Fred Moten (NYU).
Susan Buck-Morss's lecture is entitled: "Planetary Politics"
We are seeing a planetary politics unroll before our eyes - when Jewish Voices for Peace occupy Grand Central Station in New York City, when South Africa brings legal charges against Israel, the UK and the US for violating international law, when Yemen, a non-sovereign country, wages war on global trade, we experience planetary entanglements. “Scaling down” to the local is not an option.
Professor Buck-Morss is a multi-disciplinary scholar whose political theory emerges out of a constellation of historical material, visual images, and contemporary events. She is a core faculty member of the Graduate Center’s Committee on Globalization and Social Change. Her focus on sensory experience as the source of philosophical revelation is the topic of her most recent book, Seeing/Making Room for Thought (2023).

About the Institute:
The Institute for Critical Social Inquiry (ICSI) is designed to provide advanced graduate students and junior faculty from around the world with the opportunity to spend one week at the New School’s campus in Greenwich Village working closely with some of the most distinguished thinkers shaping the course of contemporary social inquiry. Each of these scholars will teach a week-long seminar on a foundational thinker or topic of contemporary concern in a series of hands-on, intensive, and intimate sessions.
