The 1990s contemporary sound was a popular music genre that combined rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop and electronic music. The 90s style music featured a distinct production with drum machine rhythms often combined with live instruments. Contemporary 90s R&B vocalists made creative use of melismas (often called riffs or runs), smooth, breathy vocals and lush styled background harmonies. This ensemble will perform the music of this genre made popular by artists such as Aliyah, TLC, SWV, Usher, Brandy and Brownstone.
