Dr. Lin Zhou leads the transformation of information technology at The New School. Dr. Zhou founded the university's Quantum initiative, igniting innovative curriculum and faculty research, creating the first-ever Quantum Design Jam and Quantum exhibition, and developing the university's Innovation Center. His achievements have been recognized by high-profile awards, including the IDG/CIO FutureEdge50 Award, the Gold Prize Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Award, and a CIO100 Award. Before joining The New School, Dr. Zhou was the program director and innovation leader for IBM Watson Education. He played a key role in leading Watson Education from its start-up phase to a global leader in advanced artificial intelligence (AI) for Education. Dr. Zhou has been featured on national and international stages, such as SXSW, Educause, GiTex, EdTechX, and AIAED.
Sven Travis has taught, administered, and researched at Parsons School of Design for 35 years. He founded Parsons Design+Technology programs and currently serves as Co-Director of MFADT and Associate Professor of Media and Design. He was the founding (now former) Dean of the School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons. Travis works with a variety of international partners, most frequently in China, and is a distinguished professor at the Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts in Chongqing. Travis's interests range from quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and creative coding to zero-waste engineered garments and new digital fabrication techniques. A dedicated experimenter and researcher, Travis has been involved in the creation of many different research laboratories at Parsons. His current projects include the "Quantum Tractor Project" in Rensselaerville, New York, and the "Lab for Creativity and AI" in Chongqing, PRC.
Maya Georgieva is a leading voice in the fields of innovation, immersive storytelling, and frontier technologies. As the Senior Director of the Innovation Center and XR, AI, and Quantum Labs at The New School, she leads a team that drives innovation in spatial computing, AI, Quantum Computing, future interfaces, and design. Georgieva is a sought-after speaker and has spoken on topics such as the Metaverse, AI, and Quantum at prestigious events like SXSW and the MIT Media Lab. Her work has been featured in The Atlantic and The Economist. She has been recognized as one of the 30 Higher Education Influencers to follow in 2022 and she is the designer of the first-ever Quantum Computing Design Jam for creatives. She served as the final judge for the MIT Reality Hackathon in 2023 and actively writes and speaks on digital transformation, immersive storytelling, and the future of learning, creativity, and work. She also consults with organizations and startups, serves as a judge and coach for several competitions and accelerator programs, and has worked with major tech companies such as IBM, Google, HP, Microsoft, and Meta. Georgieva has spoken and given talks at United Nations, UNESCO, and European Commission forums on the ethics of XR and AI, and education, policy, and corporate Innovation forums.
An Associate Professor of Professional Practice at the Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment at The New School, Charles Allison has taught at the university since 2006. He specializes in business process evaluation and improvement, evaluating for-profit and not-for-profit business models and operations, organizational strategy, leadership across a broad spectrum, governance, and renewable energy. He has more than 20 years of work experience in investment banking and risk evaluation, direct private market and foundation investing focused on impact investing, state and local economic development finance, and renewable energy, especially biodiesel for U.S. Military fuel use, and solar power for use in housing and distributed electricity generation. Since 2010, Allison has been CEO of Commonwealth Biofuels, an alternative energy project development company. He served as the Chair of the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility, reporting to the Investment Committee of The New School's Board of Trustees and the President's Office. He is a former-elected member of the University Faculty Senate and was a co-chair. He also serves as a Senior Member of the Admissions Committee at Harvard Business School.
Julia Daser, born and raised in Switzerland, is currently pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Design and Technology at Parsons. Her work exists at the intersections of creativity and computer science, with a focus on the recent rise of AI technologies and their effects on data privacy, machine bias, and algorithmic justice. Daser’s approach is both conceptually provocative and daring, inviting her audience to engage with the pressing issues and opportunities of our time.
Shashwath Santosh is a designer interested in experimental storytelling and the imaginations around emerging technologies. Independently, his studio work converges design with critical thought and speculation, allowing him to work with the likes of IBM Quantum, CRED Bank, The Times Square Alliance, and the Designed Realities Studio. Beginning this summer, Santosh will be part of the Google Creative Lab in New York, experimenting with AI-based technologies.
