89th Annual University Commencement Ceremony

The New School's 89th Annual University Commencement Ceremony was held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.

The recording of University Commencement is now available below. We are also pleased to share a photo gallery for graduates and guests to enjoy for their personal use.

Diplomas are mailed by March 2 for fall graduates, June 30 for spring graduates, and September 30 for summer graduates. International students should allow an additional eight to ten weeks for delivery. For more information, please visit the Registrar's Website.

University Commencement Recording

We are pleased to share the recording of our 89th Annual University Commencement Ceremony, which was held on Friday, May 16th at the Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.

The recording begins with the processional of our graduating students followed by our platform party and faculty. To skip ahead to the first speaker, start the video at the 48:11 minute mark.

2:00 PM

Doors Open for Graduating Students & Faculty

Graduates: dean street entrance (Southeast corner of arena on Dean Street)

faculty: Qatar Airways VIP ENtrance (Northwest corner of arena on Atlantic Avenue)

We encourage all graduating students and faculty to arrive early to prepare for lineup and to allow time for security screening and ticketing.

Graduates who arrive after 3:00 PM will be seated in overflow late seating and will not be seated with their college.

2:30 PM

Doors Open for Guests

Main Atrium Entrance (corner of Flatbush Avenue and Atlantic Avenue)

We encourage all guests to arrive when doors open to allow time for security screening and ticketing. Pre-show content will be played until the start of the ceremony.

The Barclays Center will have some concession stands open.

Our ceremony will begin with a formal processional of our students, followed by our platform party and faculty,.

We expect the ceremony to end at approximately 5:45 PM. Graduates will exit via Dean Street, and guests will exit via the main entrance onto the plaza. We encourage graduates to walk to the front plaza to locate their guests.

Barclays Center is extremely accessible via public transit, including multiple Subway lines, Long Island Railroad, and bus routes. Learn more about getting to Barclays Center on public transit.

We encourage all guests to choose public transit to get to University Commencement. Parking in downtown Brooklyn is limited, and guests are responsible for identifying their own parking solutions.

Caps and Gowns

On Friday, May 16, caps and gowns will be sold on-campus from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM at the New Store located at 72 5th Avenue, Lower Level. You may also purchase caps and gowns at the Barclay Center at the Dean Street Entrance beginning at 2:00 PM while supplies last.

I lost something at the Barclays Center. What should I do?

All lost and found items are taken to Guest Services Centers during events, located on the Main Concourse and Upper Pavilion. After an event, please submit your lost item here. You will be able to write a description of the lost item as well as leave contact information for retrieval. Barclays Center management assumes no responsibility for items lost at events.
