Nonprofits and traditional institutions are in flux, as the dynamics of power and value shift and longstanding practices face scrutiny. Nonprofits, once regarded as the moral backbone of society, face declining trust, while museums and philanthropies encounter accusations that range from irrelevance to complicity in social inequities. Internally, staff and communities call for deep reform, leaving leaders to navigate complex demands—balancing the need for foundational stability with an openness to change. Authentic, sustainable progress is nuanced; it respects the wisdom of experience while embracing fresh ideas with discernment.
In this workshop, you will learn to apply a new framework for navigating change in these difficult times. This framework organizes changes into four types: Treasures, Baggage, Illusions, and Fruits. This framework helps organizations sift through the complex dynamics of change, allowing leaders to hold onto what’s essential while also embracing meaningful progress.

The New School’s Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students reflects the goal of lifelong higher learning articulated by the founders of The New School in 1919. In 1943, The New School began offering a bachelor's degree program for adults to address the educational needs of returning WWII veterans. Today, we continue to dedicate ourselves to that mission in a program that offers exceptional services and an innovative curriculum to nearly 1,000 adult students in New York City and online.
Sruthi Sadhujan is the founder and head of strategy at Studio Ess, a brand and strategy consultancy for nonprofits and mission-driven companies.
