Victor E. Friedberg is a venture capitalist who co-founded one of the leading venture funds for food and agriculture, S2G Ventures. His first two investments, Beyond Meat and sweetgreen became sector defining companies with multi-billion dollar valuations. His new fund New Epoch Capital is positioned to be the premier fund for a market he has uniquely identified and operationalized: conscious consumer growth.
From his vantage point as an investor, he observed new dynamics facing the young companies he was investing in and saw something deeper and more global was going on: the emergence of a new marketplace, the values marketplace, a marketplace being shaped by the forces of geopolitical, political, social values and the values of individual consumers.
In order to compete and win in the values marketplace, companies large and small need to operationalize values across every function of the company from its product offerings to its operations, communications and governance. In short, companies will be building — not their value chains, but their values chain.
