The COVID-19 pandemic has upended life as we know it. How are social scientists responding?
In The Current Moment: Perspectives from the Social Sciences and Humanities, 12 professors from The New School for Social Research share their own in-depth analyses on how a variety of contemporary social, political, economic, cultural and ethical problems have been amplified by the pandemic.
The talk series runs from May 21 through June 29, 12:00-1:00 p.m. EDT, on Zoom. Each of the 11 sessions lasts one hour: 30 minutes for a presentation followed by 30 minutes for discussion.
This talk series is open to all.

This series of eleven talks, free and not for credit, offers perspectives on the pandemic by twelve NSSR faculty members from several academic disciplines, including Anthropology, Economics, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Liberal Studies, History, Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism, and Gender and Sexuality Studies. Each thirty minute talk will be followed by a 30 minute discussion. Speakers will include Shannon Mattern, Mark Setterfield, Jay Bernstein, Deva Woodly, Robin Wagner-Pacifici, Dominic Pettman, Aaron Jakes, Jon Baskin, Chiara Bottici, Howard Steele, Cinzia Arruzza and Miriam Ticktin.
The series will be offered on Zoom free of charge at 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, starting on May 21, 2020, and continue twice a week at the same time, on Thursdays and Mondays (except May 25 Memorial Day) through June 29. Each talk will have a list of recommended readings, posted in advance here and on the NSSR remote microsite.
