Sacha Alanoca's talk at The New School will tackle the intersection between AI governance and data privacy within today's political and technological landscape. She will then dive into surveillance pricing or algorithmic price discrimination, where each consumer is being charged a unique price based on their online profile. Such personalized pricing is defined based on personal and behavioral data such as demographics, financial vulnerability, device used, or percentage of battery. Alanoca will question the prevalence of such predatory pricing techniques—from grocery shopping to educational platforms and dating apps—before proposing legal interventions.
Presented by the SexTech Labs, Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students at the Schools of Public Engagement.
The New School’s Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students reflects the goal of lifelong higher learning articulated by the founders of The New School in 1919. In 1943, The New School began offering a bachelor's degree program for adults to address the educational needs of returning WWII veterans. Today, we continue to dedicate ourselves to that mission in a program that offers exceptional services and an innovative curriculum to nearly 1,000 adult students in New York City and online.
Sacha Alanoca is an AI Governance researcher, currently a PhD student at Stanford in AI Governance, with a Master's in Public Administration in AI and Tech Policy from Harvard Previously, she worked on the AI Act at the EU Commission, considered as the first AI regulation worldwide, as well as on global AI cooperation with the Global Partnership on AI, the OECD AI Policy Observatory, and The Future Society.
