The New School Archives and Special Collections invites New School faculty and their teaching assistants to attend an in-person orientation for using Special Collections in their teaching. There will be two orientations, one held in the morning (August 20) and one held in the afternoon (August 19), to accommodate different schedules. Register for the August 20 session HERE.
These events are open to all faculty members, regardless of university division or whether you are teaching in the Fall 2026 semester. Each session will run for 1.5 hours and cover:
-An overview of The New School’s Special Collections and their relationship to our archival holdings
-Incorporating rare and unique published materials into lesson plans
-Logistics of planning a class visitÂ
-Modeling a class session, including time for exploring examples from our zine and artists’ books collections
-A trip to the Archives Research Room on the 7th Floor to survey archival collection research space and exhibition casesÂ
Â
Attendance is limited to 30 participants per session, so advance registration is necessary. While you do not need to be present for the entire session, please do not RSVP unless you can commit to a full hour. We will follow up with you one week prior to confirm your attendance and to provide additional information about what to expect.Â
If you are unable to attend in person, please email us, so we can plan an online orientation before the start of the Fall semester. If there is sufficient interest, a Zoom session will be scheduled for Monday, August 24.Â
