Join Jan Carr, author of the Buddy and Bea series (Peach Tree Press/PRH) and Phoebe Yeh, VP/Editor at Crown Books for Young Readers/Random House as they discuss the craft and business of creating book series for young people. This discussion will be moderated by distinguished faculty member, Caron Levis.
This is a series-ously unique opportunity to learn from two experienced pros! Jan Carr and Phoebe Yeh, both worked at Scholastic when series books, like The Magic School Bus and The Baby-sitters Club, were taking off. Each took their early lessons in a different direction: Jan became the author of many books for children ranging from picture books to middle grade; Phoebe has become a VP and editor who has worked on, among many illustrious single titles, series such as The Magic School Bus, The School for Good and Evil, Big Nate, the graphic novel series Lucy and Andy Neanderthal. Recently the two reunited as editor and author of the picture book Star of The Party: The Solar System Celebrates, illustrated by Juana Medina. Join us!

The New School offered the first academic creative writing workshop in 1931 and pioneered a new philosophy of education. The idea: students would make their own lives and their own stories part of their education. Today, The New School continues to celebrate and cultivate daring and diverse new voices through its Creative Writing program. The value of this approach is reflected in the publications and achievements of our MFA Creative Writing graduates and faculty.
