Join us for a lively conversation with Peter Buchanan-Smith of Best Made Co. We'll discuss the joys and labors of building meaningful, value-based brands, the bold art of articulating and defending a creative point of view, the many chapters of a design career, and what it means to craft products and experiences that are simple, elegant, meaningful and lasting.
Come because you love beautifully made objects, because you’ve always wanted to chop your own firewood, because you’re curious about what it’s like to buy back the company you founded, or because you’re looking for reasons to embrace courage, compassion, grace, and fortitude and - above all - optimism, in a world that makes that hard.
We hope to see you there.

Peter Buchanan-Smith is a designer and an author. His career spans the founding of omni-channel retail brand Best Made Co. to working in close partnership with brands and artists to craft products and experiences that are simple, elegant, meaningful and lasting. He thrives at the intersection of contradictions: where the ordinary meets the extraordinary, utility meets style, and timeless meets new. In 2019, Peter left Best Made Co. to start new projects and write a book. In 2023, he bought Best Made back and relaunched it in 2024.
Peter has also worked at The New York Times, where he was art director of the Op-Ed page during September 11, and was design director at Paper magazine. He was the design director for Isaac Mizrahi and worked in close partnership with Maira Kalman, the rock band Wilco, and musicians Brian Eno, David Byrne, and Philip Glass. In 2005, he won a Grammy for the design of Wilco’s best-selling album A Ghost is Born. Learn more about Peter at buchanansmith-archives.com.
