This Architecture focused Public program will feature Chat Chuenrudeemol of CHAT Architects in Thailand.

Parsons School of Constructed Environments is honored to host Chat Chuenrudeemol Chatpong Chuenrudeemol is an architect deeply impacted by the beauty and ugliness of Bangkok.  His architectural firm, Chat Architects, focuses on multi-scalar projects derived from their “Bangkok Bastards” research, or the documentation of the Thai capital’s live street vernacular, often overlooked for their informality, but brimming with architectural invention and cultural authenticity.

Chat leads community design-build studios at Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University’s INDA (International Program in Design and Architecture), focusing on teaching his strategies on documenting “Bastard Architecture” in Southeast Asia. In 2021, Chat Architects and Thailand Minister of Art and Culture launched ‘www.bangkokbastard.com’, an on-line, open- source website where guests can upload their own bastard documentation to add to the collective

‘bastard knowledge’.

Chat’s projects have won numerous local and international awards, including Thailand’s “Silpathorn Award”, the country’s highest award for contemporary artists, presented by the Ministry of Culture of Thailand. Chat’s most recent project, Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavilion has won top awards at Seoul Design Award for Sustainable Life, World Architecture Festival, Australian Good Design Award, Taiwan’s Golden Pin Design Best of the Best Award, and Asia Pacific’s INDE Awards for “Influencer of the Year”.
