ONLINE | Scaling-Up: A Marxist Feminist Archive with Kathi Weeks

The talk assembles a group of manifestoes into an archive and counter archive for the future of U.S. Marxist feminist theory.  The category of the archive is central to my intervention into feminist political theory.  As an alternative to the concepts of canon, opus, lineage and tradition, the archive is proposed as a distinctive way to imagine the relationships among the feminist past, present, and future.  I then make a case for the relevance of a methodological commitment that resonates throughout this particular archive: the embrace of modes of structural analysis that resist the mandate to scale-down that has so often typified social theoretical knowledge production since the 1990s.

Kathi Weeks is Professor of Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies at Duke University, and a Visiting Professor of Politics, at New School for Social Research this year. She is the author of The Problem with Work: Feminism, Marxism, Antiwork politics, and Postwork Imaginaries, and Constituting Feminist Subjects and a co-editor of The Jameson Reader.

This event is free with registration. Registered attendees will receive the Zoom link via email.

This event is part of The New School's Gender & Sexualities Studies Institute's 2021 Gender Matters Symposium. You can browse other events here.

Presented by the Politics Department and the India China Institute at The New School for Social Research.
