Rethinking Capitalism: "The Habitation Society: Creating Sustainable Prosperity"

Please join us for a presentation by Fred Block on his new important book, The Habitation Society: Creating Sustainable Prosperity. 


The presentation will be moderated by Will Milberg (The New School) and feature comments by Bhaskar Sunkara (Jacobin), Natasha Lennard (The New School and The Intercept), and Nancy Fraser (The New School). 

Presented by The Robert L. Heilbroner Center for Capitalism Studies at The New School for Social Research and Eugene Lang College.

Fred Block specializes in economic sociology and political sociology. He also leads the Center for Engaged Scholarship that provides fellowship support for Ph.D. students in the social sciences whose work has the potential to make U.S. society more egalitarian, more democratic, and more environmentally sustainable.

Nancy Fraser

Henry and Louise A. Loeb Professor

The New school

Nancy Fraser is the Henry and Louise A. Loeb Professor of Philosophy and Politics at the New School for Social Research and a member of the Editorial Committee of New Left Review. Trained as a philosopher, she specializes in critical social theory and political philosophy. Widely known for her work on the relation between redistribution and recognition in the theory of justice, she works now on the relation of capitalism to racial oppression, social reproduction, ecological crisis, feminist movements, and the rise of rightwing populism.

Natasha Lennard

Associate Director and Columnist 

The new school & the intercept

Natasha Lennard is the associate director of the Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism program at The New School for Social Research. She is a columnist for The Intercept. Her work has appeared in The Nation, Bookforum and the New York Times, among others. She is the author of "Violence: Humans in Dark Times," (City Lights, 2018, with Brad Evans) and “Being Numerous: Essays on Non-Fascist Life” (Verso, 2019). She is currently working on her next book, on how we might better conceptualize certainty and uncertainty, for Verso Books.
