Reproductive Justice After Dobbs

Public Programs and Events

Katherine Hattam, "Still Life Green Pinecone," 2014. 1 x 43cm, oil on digitally inscribed woodblock. © Katherine Hattam.

Pine trees produce both "male" and "female" cones. Gestation takes up to three years. After releasing her seeds, the pinecone falls to the ground, typically with scales still open. The image of a pinecone dislodged from its tree offers an alternative postpartum story.

Example caption for photo. This is optional, just turn it off if you don't need it.

Reproductive Justice After Dobbs

Join us for a special event featuring Loretta Ross, to celebrate the launch of Polity: "Reproductive Justice After Dobbs," edited by Alyson Cole and Robyn Marasco.

There will be two roundtable discussions with Lorna Bracewell, Penelope Deutscher, Demetra Kasimis, Zakiya Luna, Claire McKinney, Annie Menzel, Loretta Ross, Rachel Schreiber, Rickie Solinger, and Karen Weingarten, and moderated by Alyson Cole and Robyn Marasco.

This issue of Polity includes reflections on the politics of reproduction today in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling overturning abortion rights, a number of state legislatures imposing new abortion bans, and the gutting of resources for prenatal care. We conceive of "reproduction" broadly, to include reproductive freedom and justice, as well as the politics of motherhood, the family, reproductive science and technology, and/or the sexual division of labor. Featuring an interview with Loretta Ross, five new essays on the topic, and a visual essay of artist’s works curated by Alyson Cole.

Presented by The New School's Gender and Sexualities Studies Institute and co-sponsored by the Department of Politics at the New School for Social Research.
