REPAIR can be a means of artistic expression. Repairing is also an actionable alternative to the chronic overconsumption, overproduction, and proliferation of carbon emissions that define our time.
To restart this academic year and welcome students, faculty and staff back to Parsons and The New School, we are coming together (virtually) on Friday September 10th, at 5pm ET to repair, together.
Please join us for a hands-on workshop to explore the ancient art of “Boro,” a Japanese method of repairing textiles by patching and stitching. We’ll cover sewing, patching and theories of repair. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. You may pick up full “repair kits” the week prior to the workshop at the Donghia healthier Materials Library on the 3rd floor of 25 E 13th street. You can, of course, bring your own materials as well.
The workshop will be led by Catherine Murphy and assisted by Sam Bennett, Senior Researchers at the Lab. They share a passion for sewing, mending and a circular economy.
Please come, meet the HML team, meet one another, learn to mend and start repairing, together.
By joining this online event, you will be prompted to accept Zoom Terms of Service. If the session is recorded, you acknowledge that by participating, your name, phone number, and profile picture might be visible to the public. You can customize your personal information when creating your Zoom account. The New School may use any recorded material from the event.
Committed to amplifying diverse voices, The New School offers more than a thousand public programs and events each year, providing fresh perspectives and unique learning opportunities. These lectures, exhibitions, concerts, and performances feature prominent and emerging artists, activists, and thought leaders.
