Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all educational institutions receiving federal funding. The New School prohibits discrimination and harassment based on sex and gender in all education programs and activities of the university and in employment and admissions. In this session, learn about our policies and your rights and responsibilities as a student as it pertains to Title IX.
All incoming students are required to attend this session.

For detailed information about our COVID policies, we encourage you to reference our COVID-19 Community Guide.
Vaccinations
All students, faculty, and staff must be up-to-date with their vaccinations, including a booster dose as soon as they are eligible (with the exception of those who receive approved medical or religious exemptions). You must either be boosted or have received an exemption from The New School to comply with the university’s vaccination policy. This policy covers all individuals who intend to be on our New York City campus for any period of time. Proof of vaccination or exemption status and testing results will be linked to your New School ID card and allow you access to campus facilities.
Testing
Everyone is strongly encouraged to take a PCR COVID-19 test within 48 hours after arrival on campus. Free PCR tests are available on campus at Arnhold Hall, located at 55 W. 13th Street. Results from tests taken off-campus, including from tests taken before arrival on campus, should be uploaded to the SHS Portal as soon as possible.
Testing is not required for building access for those who are in compliance with the university’s vaccination policy. Individuals with approved vaccination exemptions are no longer required to test for building access.
Masks
Masks are strongly recommended in indoor public settings on campus, particularly in classrooms. As we gather again after break, masks help mitigate increased risk for respiratory illnesses including COVID-19, Flu, and RSV.
Masks are always required in Student Health Services, Student Disability Services, COVID-19 testing sites, and when directed by a medical professional. Free masks remain available at vending machines throughout campus.
Travel
Those who are traveling or at higher risk of infection should take appropriate measures to ensure safe arrival, including testing before travel and wearing a mask in public.
Please note that, beginning January 5, 2023, the United States requires all travelers to the U.S. from People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result or recent recovery before boarding their flight. Read more about the CDC guidelines here.
Guest Access
All guests and visitors must be vaccinated and boosted or have a recent negative test to enter campus buildings. Proof of one of the following is required:
- Proof of full vaccination with at least one booster, when eligible; or
- A negative result from a PCR test taken within three days before arrival; or
- A negative result from a rapid antigen test taken the same day.
Guests should use the CLEAR mobile app to register and verify vaccination or test results. Those who cannot use CLEAR should verify vaccination or test results at the Welcome Center Visitors Desk located at 72 Fifth Avenue to receive a guest pass.
For more information about access to campus, please visit our Access to Campus webpage.
