On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th March 2020, the MA in Fashion Studies at The New School Parsons Paris organises the second edition of the Festival ‘Printing Fashion’ in collaboration with the MAD Paris. ‘Printing Fashion’ creates in Paris an independent space for discussion for practitioners, critics, academics to explore the contemporary role and value of fashion media via the specific lens of printed publications. This second edition hosts different round-tables and master-classes exploring the theme of time. The discussions will investigate issues of production, distribution, recycling and discharge of fashion publications; the ephemeral nature of editorial projects; the times and spaces of fashion criticism and shows’ reports; the role of magazines in archives and museums and finally the magazine as a platform for thought. On the occasion of the Festival, the exhibition Printed Dialogues (6 – 16 March 2020) will be opened at the Bibliothèque MAD Paris.
Presented by MA Fashion Studies at Parsons Paris and MAD Paris.
The MA Fashion Studies at Parsons Paris is the first and only master’s program in this field in France, and one of a small handful worldwide. In this 42-credit program, students investigate fashion as a cultural phenomenon involving all practices connected to the production, dissemination, representation, and consumption of clothing. They develop a critical perspective on fashion, addressing issues of globalization, labor, and sustainability; fashion curating, heritage, material culture, and construction of beauty ideals; identity, race, and gender; everyday consumption of clothing; and technological innovation and digital fashion futures.
The curriculum consists of seminar-based classes, lectures, and master classes led by fashion practitioners, as well as projects with Parisian fashion brands and European cultural institutions.
Committed to amplifying diverse voices, The New School offers more than a thousand public programs and events each year, providing fresh perspectives and unique learning opportunities. These lectures, exhibitions, concerts, and performances feature prominent and emerging artists, activists, and thought leaders.
