Throughout history, a limited group of individuals have contributed significantly to
establishing an architectural lighting design community in global, regional, and local contexts. These pioneers have paved the way for new groups of future designers to integrate light's creative, technical, social, emotional, and physiological performance into architectural projects. Presenters from the IES New York City History Committee will share details of the conditions that led Richard Kelly to establish his architectural lighting design practice, the first in the USA and globally. The program will introduce the Pioneers of Architectural Lighting research initiative aimed at documenting contributions of individuals throughout the world by sharing updates from nations including Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Indonesia, Korea, Lebanon, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, and the USA. Attendees will learn about opportunities to access information about our shared history and participate in the ongoing process of telling the story of the profession.
This program is made possible through the generosity of Parsons Lighting Partners.
