Join us for a conversation with Xiaochang Li on the topic automatic speech recognition and algorithmic culture.
Xiaochang Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Stanford University. Her research examines questions surrounding the relationship between information technology and knowledge production and its role in the organization of social life. Her current book project explores the history of automatic speech recognition and natural language processing and how the problem of mapping communication to computation shaped the rise of big data, machine learning, and related forms of algorithmic practice. She received her PhD from the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University and a Master’s Degree in Comparative Media Studies from MIT.
