World Refugee Day, June 20, is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe, and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. This year, the Zolberg Institute will celebrate World Refugee Day by welcoming Alexander Betts, David Owen and Serena Parekh to discuss their newly published books on various refugee issues (details below).Â

Leopold Muller Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs; Director, Refugee Economies Programme
Alexander Betts is Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs, William Golding Senior Fellow in Politics at Brasenose College, and Associate Head (Doctoral and Research Training) of the Social Science Division, at the University of Oxford. His research focuses mainly on the political economy of refugee assistance, with a focus on Africa.
David Owen is Professor of Social and Political Philosophy within the School of Economic, Social and Political Sciences at the University of Southampton where he has worked since 1995. His research focuses mainly on the ethics and politics of migration, and the relationship of agonism, perfectionism and realism.
