ONLINE | CoPA Artist Hour ft. Levy Lorenzo & Ikue Mori

RSVP to receive Zoom info or join via Facebook Live.

Join us for a CoPA Artist Hour, featuring two stellar College of Performing Arts faculty members, Levy Lorenzo and Ikue Mori.

Filipino-American Levy Marcel Ingles Lorenzo works at the intersection of music, art, and technology. On an international scale, his body of work spans custom electronics design, sound engineering, instrument building, installation art, free improvisation, and classical percussion. With a primary focus on inventing new instruments, he prototypes, composes, and performs new electronic music. Dr. Lorenzo holds the position of Assistant Professor of Creative Technologies at The New School, College of Performing Arts. www.levylorenzo.com

Ikue Mori moved from her native Tokyo to New York in 1977. She started playing drums and soon formed the seminal NO WAVE band DNA, with fellow noise pioneers Arto Lindsay and Tim Wright.

In the mid 80’s she started playing drum machines in the unlikely context of improvised music and forged her own highly sensitive  signature style. After DNA disbanded, Mori became active in the New York experimental music scene and collaborated with numerous musicians and artists throughout the US, Europe, and Asia, while continuing to produce and publish her own music. Ikue won the Distinctive Award at the Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Music category in 1999 and shortly after started using laptop computers to expand her vocabulary. She received a grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts in 2006, and the Instant Award in Improvised Music in 2019. Recent collaborations include John Zorn, Fred Frith, Evan Parker,  Zeena Parkins, Sylvie Courvoisier, Satoko Fujii and Joan Jonas.

Presented by the College of Performing Arts.
