Produced in the exquisite Our Lady of Good Counsel, Puccini’s Suor Angelica was presented in an intimate chamber orchestration, featuring the church’s magnificent organ and a mammoth chorus of singers from Mannes’s voice and opera program. One of the composer’s personal favorites, this gorgeous opera offered a moving musical experience in a stunning setting.
A story of family, lies, and heartbreak set within the restrictive world of cloistered nuns, Suor Angelica is the only opera in Puccini’s canon to feature no men onstage, with the male chorus singing offstage. The production offered an intimate look into female relationships and the dynamics of a religious order. Conducted by Mannes Opera's Music Director Cris Frisco, praised by Rick Perdian in Seen and Heard International for leading his players with "color and excitement galore." Directed by guest artist Mikhaela Mahony.
