Obsession with the image, and the replication of the self imaging, plagues a society where individuality is molded by digital tools. OBSESSED probes identity construction amidst evolving digital culture and explores the intersections of art, design, and technology. As our digital footprints become more conspicuous new technologies and art-making forms are developed. Emerging artists and designers must reconcile with these ever-changing practices, while navigating through this challenging sociopolitical and sociocultural moment in time.
Five Parsons Paris students representing the Art, Media and Technology (BFA) graduating class of 2023, will showcase multidisciplinary works in their upcoming exhibition entitled OBSESSED (March 17th and 18th, Galerie D). In collaboration with FIMINCO Foundation, and the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles of Paris; OBSESSED will coincide with the collective exhibition SYMBIOSIUM, curated by Christopher Yggdre.Â

Erica Watum (b. 1999) is an emerging multidisciplinary artist, and aspiring artist-curator. She is a first generation South African, born to Congolese immigrants, and raised internationally.         Â
Through introspection, Erica’s work investigates womanhood as a manifestation of her feminine experience. This uncovers a deeply socio-political and socio-cultural foundation, which links all pieces together in an evolving body of work. Race, gender identity, sexuality, sustainability, and geopolitics are themes which take precedence in her visual works.Â
