Lorisa Bates is currently Vice President of Programming Content Strategy, Co-
Productions & Multiplatform at BET Networks where she oversees the day-to-day operations of licensing content, producing original movies, company initiatives and scheduling/planning for BETN VOD platform strategy. She is responsible for leading multiple teams that collaborate and communicate with key departments, including Program Scheduling, Ad Sales, Marketing, Digital, Creative Services, Social Media, Research, Finance, Corporate Communications, Content Management and Original Programming.
Through these collaborations, Lorisa develops key business goals and strategies to increase ratings and revenue while supporting best practices and procedures for the company.
While working at Showtime Networks in Program Planning & Scheduling, Lorisa managed Linear and On-Demand platforms, including The Movie Channel, The Movie Channel Xtra, SHO Beyond and SHO Family.
Lorisa holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Rhetoric & Communications from the
University of Virginia and a Master of Arts Degree in Media Studies from the New School University.
Cyrille Phipps is a media educator and filmmaker based in New York City. She has over twenty-five years of production experience, working on music videos, short films, documentaries, and webisodes over several media platforms and production companies. As a filmmaker, editor, and cameraperson, she has collaborated on projects that have aired on PBS, TNT, and the BBC on important cultural figures such as Muhammad Ali, Mumia Abu Jamal, and Malcolm X. She was the co-founder of Black Planet Productions, which produced the award-winning grassroots series
Not Channel Zero- the revolution, televised. In addition, she has worked for several non-profit media organizations such as Media Network, Downtown Community Television Center, Paper Tiger Television and Manhattan Neighborhood Network. As the Senior Broadband Video Editor
at TV Land Digital, she was responsible for all post-production for web-broadcast. She also created, produced, and edited footage from original and acquired programming, as well as create content for webcast from programs such as the annual TVLand Awards, “She’s Got the Look”
and “High School Reunion.” She also worked as a camera person and video editor for media outlets such as Time Warner/Volume.com, Interactive One, Sesame Workshop and the Hispanic Information and Telecommunication Network/HITN.
Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Communication Arts at Marymount Manhattan College. She recently completed the award-winning short film, Mama Duke, a film she wrote, directed, and produced which premiered at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Previously, she wrote, shot and directed the short documentary, Seen But Not Heard: AIDS, Sexual Politics and the Untold War Against Black Women and is now developing a multi-media project and web series addressing gentrification in urban communities, specifically Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
