Earth rumblings emanate from a pile of gravel; an ensemble of plywood, foam insulation, polycarbonate, acoustic tile, and galvanized steel, fitted with transducers, fills the Glass Box.Â
"Earthworks" by Nathan Davis investigates our relationship with our natural and built environment, the geologic time cycle of building materials, and the waste-stream of construction. Released on the Sono Luminus label on Earth Day, the immersive sound world of "Earthworks" is recreated for this special event using speaker panels that Nathan custom-made from off-the shelf construction panels of various materials. It also includes the narration of fragmented text from DIY instructional videos, voiced by award-winning actress Sylvia Milo.
