Artist and musician Geo Wyeth presents a new Muck Studies Production. This live performance, transmitted over the internet, includes segments of a large-scale poem and theater piece that is currently under development. During the performance, Wyeth will move in and out of character, exploring the boundaries around the poem's key figure as well as the meeting point (and potential clashes) between theater and video as modes of engagement. Muck Studies Dept. is a constellational body employing inherited diasporic/American funk and folk poetics, and techniques of investigative journalism. The project connects mud, water, metal, gas, ass, rocks, coins, extractive industry, deep coloniality, and sensual expression of belonging to that flood. Muck Studies Dept. is also an imaginary city agent surveying the bottom of low lying water areas, “looking for stars out of what stinks.” The performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artist.
Geo Wyeth (b. 1984, NYC) is an artist and educator, working in the realms of music, performance, narrative sculpture, and video who lives and works in Rotterdam. This event is part of PERFORMANCE IN THE AGE OF PANDEMIC, a virtual, public-facing event series exploring the context of the radical reorganization of life under the current COVID-19 pandemic and other health crises such as the AIDS and 1918 influenza pandemics. Guest artists, curators, activists and scholars will consider how performing artists have responded to and been affected by these worldwide epidemics, the varied forms and functions of the work created during these times, and potential longer term changes that may result, while also making space to consider the state of arts presenting institutions and infrastructure in the wake of COVID-19. Hosted by faculty from the Department of the Arts at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School. All events are free and open to the public, but prior registration is required.
Zoom link will be sent in advance of the event.
