ABOUT JUDITH MENDENHALL:
Judith Mendenhall is the principal flutist of the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra and a member of the Berkshire Bach Ensemble. In her multi-faceted career she has appeared throughout Europe, Asia, and the US as soloist, orchestral musician, chamber musician, and pedagogue. She has been presented in thirteen nationwide “Musicians FromMarlboro” tours, has been guest artist with the Cleveland, Concord, Emerson, and Mendelssohn String Quartets, has been an assisting artist at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, was a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Aulos Wind Quintet, and a founding member of the “Music Today” ensemble under Gerard Schwarz. She has been principal flute of the New York Chamber Symphony, the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Grand Teton Music Festival, and the Colorado Music Festival.
Ms Mendenhall is wind department co-chair and flute professor at the Mannes School of Music, where she received the 2016 Distinguished Teaching Award from the New School University. She is also on the faculty of Queens College. A strong advocate for robust, expressive wind playing, teaching and mentoring are central to her life. Her summer festivals include the 2024 Beijing International Music Festival, the Interlochen Flute Institute, the Aria Summer Music Academy, the Marlboro, Grand Teton and Colorado Music Festivals, and four recital & master class tours to Taiwan. She has recorded for Delos, Columbia, Vox, CRI, Koch, Bridge Records, and the Marlboro Recording Society.
ABOUT REBEKAH HELLER:
Praised for her “turn-on-a-dime energy” (The New Yorker), conductor Rebekah Heller is an exciting force at the forefront of new music. Informed by her robust experience as “an impressive solo bassoonist” (The New Yorker), and long-held leadership roles in the renowned International Contemporary Ensemble, Heller’s conducting has been called “marvelous” (I Care if You Listen) and “crisp” (S. Florida Classical Review). She is a regular conductor of the International Contemporary Ensemble, and has led the New World Symphony, The Harlem Chamber Players, the Oberlin Sinfonietta and Contemporary Music Ensemble, The Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra and others.
Highlights of Heller’s bassoon career include solo appearances with The New York Philharmonic, The Nagoya Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, and as a featured performer at music festivals worldwide including TIME:SPANS (NYC), Born Creative (Tokyo), and the Kanazawa Creative Music Festival (Japan).
Heller teaches at the Mannes School of Music where she Co-Chairs the Wind Department, leads a bassoon studio, and teaches classes on improvisation for classical musicians.
