About the Program:
Tyler Sexson: Longmire
Deep in the woods surrounding Mount Rainier, amongst the looming pines and moss-carpeted rock lies Longmire. Here, the clamor of everyday life fades away to a beautiful stillness unique to this remote scene. The entire landscape seems to be a study of all the possible shades of green and the near constant rainfall leaves every surface damp and glistening. When the sun does come, it falls in golden curtains through the tree canopy and stirs mist up from the forest floor. This is the world listeners of Longmire are invited to. Waves of orchestral textures churn over one another, emerging from murky depths and rising to bright vistas of clarity. The musical landscape mostly mirrors the overcast skies of the Pacific Northwest, though there are moments when the clouds part and the meadows of Longmire shimmer in the sunlight.

Igor Stravinsky: Petrushka (1947)
Stravinskyâs 1947 revision of Petrushka adapts his 1911 ballet for concert performance with a smaller orchestra. The revision preserves the colorful melodies, lively rhythms, and characterful themes of the original while making it more practical for orchestral performance.
