Artificial intelligence is increasingly discussed in the cooperative sector, often without a clear understanding of how these systems work or what their adoption entails. This event series provides concise, accessible education to support more informed decision-making around AI in cooperatives.
Designed for cooperative leaders and students across sectors, the sessions move beyond hype to examine AI through a cooperative lens, with attention to governance, ownership, labor, and values-aligned use. The series combines a clear, structured discourse with space for continued dialogue and sector-wide learning, supporting responsible and strategic engagement with AI across the cooperative movement.

Founding Director of the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy and the Platform Cooperativism Consortium
R. Trebor Scholz is a professor at The New School in New York City, a Faculty Associate at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center, and a Visiting Researcher at the Berlin Social Science Center. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Plymouth and focuses on cooperative entrepreneurship in the digital economy.Â
Morshed Mannan is a Lecturer in Global Law and Digital Technologies at Edinburgh Law School, University of Edinburgh. He was previously a postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute. He is also an Affiliate Faculty member at the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy (ICDE) and was previously an ICDE Fellow.
Dorleta Urrutia-Onate is a researcher and innovator from Bilbao, Spain, specializing in cooperative digital economies and ethical AI governance. Trained at Mondragon University as an engineer, she is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Deusto, researching how Explainable AI can enhance transparency in worker co-op governance.
