Sequins, Clay & Creative Courage: A Journey in Authentic Self-Employment

Join ceramic artist, performer, and creative maximalist Alex Simon — the powerhouse behind the brand Make Good Choices — for an afternoon of sparkle-fueled movement and inspiring storytelling.

• 3:00–3:45 PM – Prancercise: Dance for Joy with an Aerobic Ribbon Release!
• 4:00–5:00 PM – Sequins, Clay & Creative Courage: A Journey in Authentic Self-Employment

The event kicks off with Prancercise: Dance for Joy with an Aerobic Ribbon Release! — a queer, glitter-drenched homage to Richard Simmons… but even gayer. Part prancercise, part aerobics, part playground free-for-all, this joyful session uses ribbon dancers to shake off stress, unleash joy, and high-kick worry into oblivion. Expect laughter, sweat, and the kind of fabulous cardio that leaves you grinning. All bodies and all movement levels are welcome — it’s about comfort, joy, and self-expression.

After we’ve twirled our worries away, Alex will present Sequins, Clay & Creative Courage: A Journey in Authentic Self-Employment — an intimate, funny, and heartfelt look at her path from an East Coast, indoor-asthmatic, musical-theater-camp-counselor type to art student to thriving full-time entrepreneur and ceramic artist for over a decade. She’ll share the wins, the pivots, the detours, and the “more is more” philosophy that has made her work a viral sensation across social media — and helped thousands of her ceramic pieces find their way into hands and hearts around the world.

Bio

Alex Simon (she/her) is a ceramic artist, creative maximalist, performer, and unapologetic sparkle queen based in Portland, Oregon. She creates vibrant, functional ceramic art that celebrates play, nostalgia, and queer joy — from prancing unicorn heart mugs to inhaler pipes for asthmatics to rainbow menorahs that shimmer with meaning. Her work invites delight, sparks conversation, and transforms everyday rituals into moments of wonder.

After graduating from Bennington College with a concentration in Visual Arts, Alex worked in production pottery studios as a mold-maker and slip-caster before launching her own brand, Make Good Choices. Now with hundreds of thousands of followers across social media, she shares both her intricate ceramic process and her unapologetically authentic life with a devoted audience.

When she’s not covered in clay, you can find her laughing with her queer community, bedazzling everything within reach, salting everything I can’t glitter, obsessing over my perfect dog, and probably looking at rainbow sequin outfits on the internet.

Holiclay 2020: Move in the Right Direction

It is December 2020 between the darkest hours of 9pm and 6am. In the cozy bedazzled basement studio of a local ceramic artist, emerged from a literal clay tank the queer femme sparkle queen of your- my- everyone’s dreams...

This is Holiclay 2020. You probably missed the sale (you did, it's 2022), but you’ll definitely want to follow her for the rest of forever.
