[English] This panel is a conversation with the four founders of LASTESIS, the Chilean performance collective which brings “theses” of seminal feminist theorists to life and whose flash mob dance, “A Rapist in Your Path” (Un Violador en Tu Camino), has become a global phenomenon. First performed in front of a police station in Valparaiso, Chile on November 25, 2019 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), the feminist anthem has been performed at over 400 sites around the world, including the New York State Supreme Court building on the occasion of Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial. The collective is now being sued by the Chilean national police for inciting violence in the context of the 2019-20 Chilean social uprising. Situating LASTESIS in the larger context of global social revolutions and anti-revolutionary crackdowns, this panel considers gender-based violence, public interventions and public space, global protest and state repression.
The conversation will be in Spanish with live translation into English.
