Meet current students who are excited to welcome you to The New School and enjoy light refreshments.
Since opening its doors in 1914 and introducing the first Amateur Night contests in 1934, the Apollo Theater in Harlem has played a major role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues, and soul — all quintessentially American music genres.
Join us for a screening and post-film discussion of The Apollo, a 2019 documentary which examines the storied history of the iconic Apollo Theater while following the Apollo's inaugural staging of Ta-Nehisi Coates' acclaimed Between the World and Me.
During the Meet the Departments session, students will visit with chairs and directors of different departments. We recommend that students pick at least 3 majors to explore during the fair. We encourage students to meet with at least one department in an area of study they are not familiar with. Departments will discuss their focus, faculty, and readings/materials in the Digital Community Reader.
Join us in the Tishman Auditorium for a night of mind-blowing magic performed by Joseph Réohm. Joseph, the grand-prize winner of the hit show “Wizard Wars” on SyFy and APCA “Magician of the Year” brings to you his award-winning comedy magic show. He’ll keep you laughing and mezmorized the entire time, filled with edgy, mind-blowing award-winning magic loaded with quick wit and audience participation (if you want, that is!). Don’t miss this!
Lang students who have registered for orientation will receive funds on their New Card to have lunch at campus partner locations following their morning meeting - take a break, grab some grub and explore the neighborhood. See restaurants.

Yes! Registration is open for both incoming students and their parents and family members. Please register here.
Additional individual sessions may also require registration. Be sure to read the schedule in detail and keep an eye on your New School email account for more information.
Most in person sessions will not be recorded or open to virtual attendance. If students cannot attend orientation events, they should be in touch with their Academic Advisors, First Year Faculty, or First Year Fellow to let them know that you can't attend and ask any questions. You can find a Faculty, Staff, or Student email by typing their name in the To: line in your New School email.
What is the difference between university-wide events, college-specific events, and program-specific events?
We're so glad you asked! At The New School, you're not just a part of your own individual college. You have all the resources of the entire university at your fingertips.
During your schedule, you'll see sessions that pertain to your particular program of study to help you prepare for your academic experience. You'll also see sessions on getting involved, campus resources, and social activities that are open to all students regardless of your college or major. You're encouraged to attend as much as possible (note: some program-specific sessions are mandatory. Monitor your New School email closely for details).
The interdisciplinary nature of The New School is one of our strengths, and we're so glad you'll be a part of this multi-faceted community.
When our undergraduate students join The New School community, their parents and family members come along for the ride, too! Family Orientation will be held on Monday, August 22. Click here for more details!
