Jie-Hyun Lim is a South Korean historian, writer, and “memory activist.” He is Professor of Transnational History and Director of the Critical Global Studies Institute at Sogang University in Seoul, where he has shaped influential debates on global memory by introducing the paradigms of “Mass Dictatorship” and “Victimhood Nationalism.” He leads the research project Mnemonic Solidarity: Colonialism, War, and Genocide in the Global Memory Space (2017–2024) and serves as Series Editor for Mass Dictatorship in the Twentieth Century and Entangled Memories in the Global South (Palgrave Macmillan), as well as Global Easts (Central European University Press).

His recent publications include Victimhood Nationalism: History and Memory in a Global Age (Columbia University Press, 2025); Opfernationalismus: Erinnerung und Herrschaft in der postkolonialen Welt (Klaus Wagenbach, 2024); Global Easts: Remembering, Imagining, Practicing (Columbia University Press, 2022); and Mnemonic Solidarity: Global Interventions (Palgrave, 2021, co-edited with Eve Rosenhaft). He is currently the Class of 1955 Visiting Professor of Global Studies at Williams College.
