Gather with Journalism + Design students and faculty for an evening of discussion about the under-discussed topic of actually knowing how to work. Our guide will be Sharon Mashihi.
Sharon is taking questions in advance for this event so that she can cater her talk to specific concerns. If you have a specific question about your own process - how you get stuck, what parts of working are challenging* - you can submit your question when you register for the event!
*no question is too dumb! the "dumber" the question, likely the more relatable!
Presented by the Journalism + Design department at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School.
Shanon Mashihi is the creator of the serialized audio mindtrip Appearances (Mermaid Palace, Radiotopia), and its precursor, the audio documentary, Man Choubam, which won the Third Coast Audio Festival Silver Prize.
Described as “a breakthrough for the podcast form,” Appearances was named a top podcast of the year by The New York Times, The Economist, Vulture, and The L.A. Podcast Review.
Sharon has given talks at The Third Coast International Audio Festival, Union Docs, The Gotham Film and Media Institute, and On Air Fest. She also frequently talks to university students about finding their creative voice and telling narrative stories in audio.
She has received grants, residencies, and fellowships from Yaddo, Macdowell, NYSCA, Monson Arts, and Ragdale. As a screenwriter, Sharon cowrote the film The Ticket and served as story editor on the films Thou Wast Mild & Lovely and Madeline’s Madeline.
