All students who earn their degrees in Fall 2025, or who apply to graduate in May 2026 or August 2026, will be invited to participate in the ceremonies. To learn more about applying to graduate, please visit the Registrar's website.
Within a few business days of officially applying to graduate, you should receive an email from a site called Tassel inviting you to register to attend University Commencement. Please check your spam folder for the email. If you do not see an email, please go to newschool.tassel.com/register and request your password.
When you register to attend University Commencement on a website called Tassel, you will also be able to submit the correct pronunciation of your name, which will be read at your college recognition ceremony.
Even if you do not plan to attend University Commencement but plan to attend your college recognition ceremony, please login to Tassel to submit your pronunciation.
On Crossing the Stage:
Names are called at the college ceremonies. You will need to register separately by locating your college ceremony on the commencement hub.
University Commencement honors the collective experience of The New School. Students do not cross the stage at this event, and are recognized collectively by college.
You may have questions about access to New School technology resources and services as you finish your academic career. For those continuing at The New School for post-graduate degrees, your access will remain unchanged, but for those not continuing your education at The New School after graduation, your access will change. Please reference this helpful Guide for Graduating Students developed by Information Technology for more information.
We look forward to celebrating with your family! The University does not issue invitation letters in support of family and friends of students applying for a tourist visa to the U.S. because embassy officers do not accept letters of invitation from ISSS.
However, we have created a guide to assist you in writing your own, including a letter template.

Congratulations on your graduation! We hope you will take a moment to celebrate your accomplishments and pay it forward to future classes of New Schoolers by making a gift to the Student Emergency Fund or the Annual Fund for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (EISJ).

Graduating student gift participants are eligible to receive a philanthropy cord* to be worn with your cap and gown at Commencement and demonstrate your support of the next class of New Schoolers.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Programs staff at upcoming Commencement Countdown Events to make your gift in person and learn more about the benefits available to you as a New School alum.

Degree-seeking students must apply for graduation beginning one term before their expected graduation date, and no later than March 15. The application for graduation is available through MyNewSchool under the Academics tab. This will ensure that your degree progress is audited and your degree is conferred on time.

Once you apply to graduate, you may register to attend University Commencement through our portal called Tassel. An invitation will be sent to your New School email account.
You will register for yourself as well as up to four (4) guests. After April 3, 2026, any remaining guest tickets will be distributed, with details to be shared in the coming weeks.
The Barclays Center will distribute tickets via Ticketmaster in the weeks preceding University Commencement.
University Commencement will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM at the Barclays Center.
In addition to University Commencement, our colleges host recognition ceremonies.
The college ceremonies are intimate settings where students are recognized by name individually. They celebrate the unique experience of each graduate in their respective college or program, and feature speakers from your specific college. These ceremonies are held on or near campus. To locate your ceremony, visit the Commencement website.
Registration will open on February 4, 2026.
