Join us online for a panel on the global impact of Zohran Mamdani, the socialist mayoral candidate in New York City. Speakers - offering a transnational lens - will explore his leftist, diasporic politics, democratic socialism’s relevance to postcolonial societies, and diaspora radicalism.

Anneeth Kaur Hundle is associate professor of anthropology and the inaugural Presidential Chair in Social Sciences to Advance Sikh Studies at the University of California, Irvine, where she is affiliated with global studies, religious studies and Asian American studies. Hundle has had previous appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, University of California, Merced and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. She is the author of Insecurities of
Expulsion: Afro-Asian Entanglements in Transcontinental Uganda (Duke University Press, 2025). She currently serves
as associate editor of the journal Sikh Formations: Religion, Culture, Theory.
Sangay K. Mishra is Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Drew University in New Jersey, United States. He specializes in immigrant political incorporation, diaspora studies, Asian American politics, and racial, and ethnic politics in the United States.His book, Desis Divided: The Political Lives of South Asian Americans, was published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2016.
She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale (2016), a Master’s in International Relations (2006), and Bachelor’s degrees in History (2006) and Social Sciences (2004). She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and International Relations at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
