In this year’s edition, the physical space of the Kellen Galery will be used as a live device to explore
fashion as an expansive and evolving idea. The space will also provide an opportunity to relocate fashion education outside the classroom and other specialized environments where critical conversations about fashion often remain separated from other actors, communities, and the general public.

FEW 2023, a joint initiative by the Gromek Institute for Fashion Business and Parsons MFA Fashion
Design and Society at Parsons, will facilitate a space for conversations led by fashion educators,
students, industry professionals, fashion and design brands, and the general public to explore the
intersections between fashion design, creative industries, and social justice. The convening will include guest lectures, open classes, workshops, readings, active-making, and special sessions.
Some of the questions guiding this year’s conversations include: Where does fashion education happen today? Who can and cannot access and affect fashion education? What should fashion education be

about?

We would like to invite you to rethink fashion education and participate in FEW 2023:

● Teachers can facilitate a workshop or learning session addressing this year’s questions or
relocate their classes to the Kellen Gallery, creating a temporary alternative space to think and
learn critically about fashion.

● Industry professionals and fashion brands can facilitate a session or workshops and open the
space to communities outside the university setting.

● Students are also welcome to facilitate sessions, drop in at the gallery any time, join other
ongoing sessions, and gather and participate in the conversations taking place.

● The general public and all communities can visit the gallery and engage in all the conversations
and workshops during the week.

Mission Statement

We are excited to launch and invite you to participate in the first edition of Fashion Education Week (FEW) in the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery (2 West 13th Street) from October 13th to 18th, 2023.

FEW is an open platform that considers Fashion Education a catalyst for change. It approaches Fashion as an array of practices that affect multiple dimensions of human experience and aims to highlight local communities and the people that make up the creative fabric of New York City. As such, FEW’s program is open to everyone.

In this year’s edition, the physical space of the Kellen Gallery will be used as a live device to explore fashion as an expansive and evolving idea. The space will also provide an opportunity to relocate fashion education outside the classroom and other specialized environments where critical conversations about fashion often remain separated from other actors, communities, and the general public.

FEW 2023, a joint initiative by Parsons' Gromek Institute for Fashion Business and the MFA Fashion Design and Society program, will facilitate a space for conversations led by fashion educators, students, industry professionals, fashion and design brands, and the general public to explore the intersections between fashion design, creative industries, and social justice. The convening will include guest lectures, open classes, workshops, readings, active-making, and special sessions.
