Fandango at the Wall began as the Fandango Fronterizo Festival, a cross-border gathering founded by Jorge Francisco Castillo in 2008. Each year, musicians and community members from both sides of the Mexico–U.S. border come together in Tijuana and San Diego to celebrate son jarocho music, culture, and connection.
Inspired by Castillo’s work, GRAMMY Award-winning pianist and composer Arturo O’Farrill collaborated with artists across genres to create Fandango at the Wall—a project that challenges physical, musical, and cultural borders.
The project brings together musicians from jazz, classical, Broadway, hip hop, and son jarocho traditions, transforming a symbol of separation into a shared space for creativity, dialogue, and community.
At its heart, Fandango at the Wall is a celebration of connection: a reminder that music can build bridges, foster understanding, and imagine a more unified future.
