Welcome to The New School Family! As your student embarks on the start of their journey here at The New School, we've designed an Orientation experience just for family members to make sure you have all the information you need.
Family Orientation consists of a mix of virtual and in-person opportunities in July and August. All Family Orientation information will be hosted on this hub, so be sure to bookmark it for easy reference.
Family Orientation Welcome Sessions will be held on Friday, August 21, and Sunday, August 23, with the same content provided on both days. The Sunday session will be live streamed.
Family members should register to attend the session that works best for their schedule, and do not need to attend both.
On both Friday and Sunday, we will be hosting receptions to allow you to connect with other family members! Scroll down for the full schedule.
Join fellow parents and family members for a welcome reception hosted by the Parent and Family Council. Meet university leadership, connect with other families of new students, and learn more about the many ways parents and families can stay engaged throughout their student’s New School experience. The reception offers an opportunity to build community, ask questions, and begin forming lasting connections with the university and one another. Registration will be required; details forthcoming.
Parents and family members of students enrolled in Parsons, Mannes, Drama, and Jazz are invited to gather to meet members of the college and connect with one another. Refreshments will be provided.
Registration is not required, but please note that space is limited. Guests will be admitted until we reach capacity.
In the weeks leading up to the start of the semester, we invite family members to join us for Zoom webinars with a variety of offices that contribute to your student's success at The New School! If you are unable to join us live, the sessions will be recorded and made available following the event. Please register below to attend live or receive a link to the recordings.
The in-person family welcome will be offered twice, once on Friday, August 21 and again on Sunday, August 23, which will also be live streamed. Family members should only attend once.

If you plan to take public transit while in the city, note that all subways and busses accept tap-to-pay. If you plan to take the Long Island Railroad or Metro-North railroad, a physical or mobile ticket will be required.
No, these sessions are for family members only. Your student will be attending their own sessions. Please direct your student to the New Student Orientation Hub.
Certainly! We know that many of our student's primary support systems are also caretakers for multiple generations. While some of the information sessions may not be the most exciting for the tiniest Narwhals in your family, please feel welcome to bring them along. Our buildings are fully accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. Feel free to email us at families@newschool.edu if you need any additional support.
