Everything Urgent Quickly is Gone is a wildly inventive new production that delivers 400 years of music exploring the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, from Monteverdi to today.
Using transformed space in The New School's own 72 Fifth Ave as the canvas, this moveable feast is presented throughout two floors of the grand and historic 1893 Romanesque Revival building. In a collaboration between Mannes Opera and their colleagues at Parsons School of Design, the student makers and creators will build the theatrical environment for the large cast of singers and instrumentalists. Orpheus had musical talent far beyond mortal ability, and his journey to the underworld to rescue the love of his life has inspired centuries of music and theater. Mannes is excited for audiences to experience this in a single theatrical evening.
Colter Schoenfish, a rising Brooklyn-based director of theatre and opera, returns to Mannes Opera to direct the world premiere of this sprawling experiment with singers, actors, musicians, and designers from Mannes and Parsons. Schoenfish has worked with many companies including Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Detroit Opera, Opera Theatre of St Louis, Tulsa Opera, and Opera Saratoga, and is a graduate of University of Michigan's theatre directing program.Â
