In this talk, Rebecca Bryant and Madeleine Reeves will discuss their edited book The Everyday Lives of Sovereignty: Political Imagination Beyond the State (Cornell University Press, 2021). Victoria Hattam will moderate.
Rebecca Bryant is Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University and an anthropologist of politics and law. Her work has focused on ethnic conflict and displacement, border practices, post-conflict reconciliation, and contested sovereignty on both sides of the Cyprus Green Line and in Turkey. She is author of The Past in Pieces.
Madeleine Reeves is Professor of Anthropology of Migration at Oxford University with wide-ranging interests in borders, labour migration, sovereignty, time, and social reproduction. She is author of Border Work.Â
Victoria Hattam is Professor of Politics at The New School for Social Research. She received her PhD in Political Science from MIT. Hattam works in three research areas: US-Mexico border politics, design and production in the global economy, and visual and spatial politics.Â
