When visionary multi-instrumentalist and composer Eric Dolphy died in 1964, at age 36, the jazz world was left wondering, “What if?”
This celebration of Dolphy’s genius brings together more than 30 brilliant artists to re-imagine his music and wonder aloud what might have been. Unheard Dolphy. New works created from his unfinished scores. Explorations of his previously unknown jam sessions with Cecil Taylor. Geri Allen's epic "Celebration Suite for Eric Dolphy"- performed only once, 35 years ago. School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School College of Performing Arts ensemble performing unrecorded Dolphy and backing legendary dancer Dianne McIntyre. A stellar slate beginning to end, with a symposium and a listening session led by the great flutist, composer and Dolphy scholar Dr. James Newton.
• Improvisations and new works created from Dolphy’s unheard and unfinished scores housed at the Library of Congress. A first.
• Musical speculations on Dolphy’s heretofore unknown jam sessions with the great Cecil Taylor. A first.

• The Tom Chiu String Quartet performing Dolphy’s unfinished “Love Suite,” composed for strings.
• School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School Dolphy Ensemble, fresh from a course created for this festival, performing music composed from Dolphy’s scores and backing dance legend Dianne McIntyre.
