We are pleased to invite you to the Fall 2023 Lang College Theater Production staging of We Are Pussy Riot or Everything is P.R.
FREEDOM! JUSTICE! WE ARE ALL PUSSY RIOT!
In 2012, on the eve of Putin becoming president again a small group of activists had an idea to create “Pussy Riot”, an anonymous punk feminist protest performance group. They dress up in bright colors and balaclavas and perform punk songs encouraging attention to be paid to Putin’s crimes.
Anyone can be part of Pussy Riot, even you !!!
Come join us for a play by Barbara Hammond that explores the young feminist activists, who call themselves Pussy Riot. They offered up a punk prayer in Moscow’s Orthodox Cathedral. They played and shouted for exactly 48 seconds before being dragged out of the church by security guards. That night they uploaded a video of their performance to YouTube becoming enemies of both the Church and the State.
The girls were arrested and put on trial. Through the internet and mass media the word got out the world hold of the story and turned Pussy Riot into the greatest piece of performance art in Russian history. This is their story.
FREEDOM, JUSTICE!
VIRGIN MARY, CHASE PUTIN AWAY!
WE ARE ALL PUSSY RIOT!
In February 2012 just before Putin’s re-election, a few young feminist activists entered the Russian Orthodox Church in the center of Moscow, protest-singing Russia’s lack of separation of church and state. By standing up for their truth, they raised worldwide attention to their cause.
