We close the semester with the 2023 Academy Award–winning documentary by Laura Poitras (New School alumna) tracing the life, art, and activism of the prolific photographer Nan Goldin. Followed by a conversation about photography as both public record and personal testimony. Artist and activist Marina Berio, featured in Poitras’s film and co-founder of Goldin’s P.A.I.N. collective, challenging the Sackler family’s Purdue Pharma empire, joins us to reflect on art’s power to bear witness, confront systems of control, and shape collective memory.
This event is part of the DESIGN DOCS Series. DESIGN DOCS is a monthly salon screening series featuring genre-defying documentaries as catalysts for conversation with guests from New York’s creative community. Each event examines design, culture, and power through the lens of design documentaries, building a space for reflection, connection, and critical strategy. The series is open to the New School community and the public.
Presented the BBA Strategic Design and Management program at Parsons School of Design.
