Join Laura Gardner and Francesca Granata in a conversation exploring fashion publishing as a critical practice through their recent books Fashion Projects: 15 Years of Fashion in Dialogue (Intellect) and Marginal Fashion Publishing: Tactics, Practices, Market Forces (Bloomsbury). Both Francesca and Laura are publishers of small-press imprints, and their books explore practices and histories of small-scale models of publishing, critical writing, and creative production in the margins of fashion’s industrial forces.
Together, they will explore the possibilities of small press fashion publishing as a collaborative, critical praxis, in the context of the fashion media landscape today.

Laura Gardner is an editor, lecturer and co-publisher of Mode and Mode. She holds a PhD from RMIT University, and her research and projects focus on the methodologies of experimental fashion publishing in proximity to other creative fields. She is author of the book Marginal Fashion Publishing: Tactics, Practice, Market Forces (Bloomsbury, 2026) and co-editor of Radical Fashion Exercises: A Workbook of Modes and Methods (Valiz, 2024). Formerly online editor for the journal Vestoj, and guest editor for Viscose issue 6, Laura also works as a freelance writer and editor for fashion, art and design publications.
Francesca Granata is Associate Professor and Director of the MA in Fashion Studies at Parsons School of Design. Her research centers on modern and contemporary visual and material culture with a particular focus on fashion history and theory, gender and performance studies. She is the author of Experimental Fashion: Performance Art, Carnival and the Grotesque Body (I.B. Tauris, 2017). She also has a longstanding interest in fashion criticism and is the editor of two collections, Fashion Criticism: An Anthology (Bloomsbury, 2021) and Fashion Projects: 15 Years of Fashion in Dialogue (Intellect, 2024). The latter is a collection of articles from the New York-based journal she founded and edited.
