A Durham, North Carolina native by way of Dallas, Texas, Kennedi Carter is a photographer with a primary focus on Black subjects. Her work highlights the aesthetics & sociopolitical aspects of Black life as well as the overlooked beauties of the Black experience: skin, texture, trauma, peace, love and community. Her work aims to reinvent notions of creativity and confidence in the realm of Blackness. In 2020, Carter's portrait of Beyoncé for the cover story in British Vogue made her the youngest cover photographer in the magazine's history.

The Design and Technology programs at Parsons present Cloud Salon, a Zoom webinar series that invites artists, designers, technologists, and industry professionals to present projects and to engage in direct conversations with participants.

 
This spring, DT continues to partner on Cloud Salon curation with black beyond, a radical platform for artists and activists to speculate alternate realities for Blackness. black beyond interrogates understandings of Black subjectivity outside the limitations imposed on Blackness by the racist imaginary through: Afropessimism, Afronowism, Afrofuturism, Black feminist theory, and critical race studies.

This talk will begin with a 20-minute presentation by Kennedi Carter, followed by a 40-minute conversation with participants, moderated by members of black beyond.
