Lang-CESJ is piloting an Affinity Group Train-the-Trainer program, a 4-session series designed to equip staff and faculty with the knowledge and tools to create and lead affinity groups. The primary goal is to empower participants to build affinity groups that address intersecting injustices. A key goal of this space is to help staff and faculty who may feel siloed in their identity connect with others who share similar experiences, ultimately building a stronger community.Â
Facilitators Aysa Gray and Anthony Wilder bring over 10 years of experience in creating and participating in affinity groups within higher education spaces.Â
What are affinity groups?Â

Affinity groups bring together individuals based on shared, non-dominant interests, identities, or experiences—often focusing on characteristics such as race, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or other aspects of social identity. These groups aim to create a supportive space where members can connect, share experiences, discuss challenges, and work toward common goals related to their shared identity or interest.
