The Office of Alumni Engagement is pleased to present an alumni panel on the future of design and sustainability as part of the annual Parsons Festival. We’ll hear from Parsons Interim Executive Dean Yvonne Watson, and Parsons alumni Jeff Karly Drouillard, Wei Hung Chen, and Leela Shanker, as they address this critical topic, coinciding with Earth month and linking design, sustainability and social justice.
Immediately following the panel, alumni and guests will enjoy mingling and networking with the New School community over bites, beverages and fellowship on the occasion of this Parsons reunion.

This event is presented in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Engagement and Parsons School of Design at The New School.
Yvonne Watson's career has spanned roles that have encompassed both undergraduate and graduate studies. She holds a Master’s in Globalization, Identity and Technology from The School of Humanities, Nottingham Trent University and is undertaking a Doctorate in Education with a focus on questions around the role that community, belonging, and kindness play in the development of inclusive pedagogy. Her praxis involves work in fashion sustainability and the rethinking of the supply chain to create inclusive spaces for global artisans and fashion entrepreneurs from developing and emerging economies.
Watson was appointed Interim Executive Dean of Parsons School of Design in July 2022. A member of the School of Fashion faculty and leadership since 2010, Yvonne most recently served as Parsons’ Dean of Curriculum and Learning and Advisor to the Provost’s Office on Curriculum. As a member of the Parsons Deans’ Council, Yvonne has been in the process of developing a systematic approach to ensuring the programs at Parsons are designed within a culture of equity, inclusion, and social justice. Prior to this role, Yvonne was Associate Dean of Curriculum and Learning and promoted a culture of assessment and support for faculty investment and pedagogical growth. She previously served as Associate Dean in the School of Fashion, where she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the BFA Fashion Design curriculum and articulation of pathways.
Jeff Karly Drouillard is a Haitian-American Fashion Designer, Educator, Strategist and Entrepreneur from Brooklyn, NY. Holding two Master's Degrees, Strategy Design and Fashion Management, his work at Parsons and his private label examines dichotomy within the context of the Black experience as it relates to design and upward mobility. He currently teaches in BFA Fashion Design and MPS Fashion Management at Parsons. He has been featured in WWD, CFDA's Future Fashion Designer Showcase, Creatively, Fashion United, and more. He's done work with Baron & Baron, Alice & Olivia, Coach, Zegna and more. Jeff currently sits on The Fashion Policy council which aims to bring legislation and to set sustainability regulations for the industry. He is also the co-founder of a Mentorship Program that focuses on access and the college admissions pipeline that disproportionately affects students of color. He believes by combining design with global issues, we can bridge the gaps in the industry.
Wei Hung’s interest in product design has allowed him to have a more calculative perspective and approach when it comes to designing garments. He approaches design by creating a circular system of modularized garments that allow different components to travel across the whole collection. This system is an attempt to lengthen lifespan of garments and alter how a wardrobe functions. Alongside garments, he has also created accessories and products to complete this system. His work has been featured in Vogue, Milk and Metal Magazine, among others, and he was recognized in Forbes' 2022 30 Under 30 Art & Style category.
