Elefanta Editorial and in•ter•sti•tial press present Brotes, a book of poems and photographs written during the first wave of COVID-19 by Alexandra Délano Alonso. Join us on April 23rd for a book launch event, including a reading by the author with music by Shahzad Ismaily. The event will be in English and Spanish with introductions by the editors Emiliano Becerril and Macushla Robinson, followed by Q&A.Â

Alexandra Délano Alonso is Associate Professor and Chair of Global Studies at The New School and the current holder of the Eugene M. Lang Professorship for Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring. She received her doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on diaspora policies, the transnational relationships between states and migrants, migration in the Central America-Mexico-US corridor, sanctuary, and the politics of memory in relation to borders, violence and migration. Her work is driven by a concern with the inequalities underlying forced migration, the structures that lead to the marginalization of undocumented migrants in the public sphere, and the practices of resistance and solidarity focused on migrants' access to rights, from a transnational perspective.
Macushla Robinson is a writer, curator and PhD candidate based at The New School in New York. Having curated at a major cultural institution for what seemed like a while, she turned to political theory in the hope of better understanding the material and aesthetic practices in which she was implicated. The idea was to get outside the terms of the argument that art has with itself, and see it in relation to, you know, the world. She is the founder of Interstitial Press, and remains interested in the fractures, tensions and subtle impossibilities of both art and politics.
Shahzad Ismaily was born to Pakistani immigrant parents and grew up in a wholly bicultural household. While he holds a masters degree in biochemistry from Arizona State University, he is a largely self-taught composer and musician, having mastered the electric and double bass, guitar, banjo, accordion, flute, drums, various percussion instruments and various analog synthesizers and drum machines.
